iOS 13 is nearly here and will boast a whole host of awesome new features. Here’s what’s new, how you can get the most out of these new features, and what you should be excited about…

This year’s Apple event was a bonanza of new devices, with the tech giant once again showcasing some of the most exciting new tech around. And, while you surely can’t wait to get your hands on one of the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro or iPhone 11 Pro Max, arguably just as exciting is the slew of new features coming with the arrival of iOS 13, which is baked into all of these incredible devices.

So, what’s new? We run down the most exciting new features iOS 13 has to offer…

Dark Mode

The latest iPhones are stunning, and you may find it hard to tear your eyes away from their pin-sharp screens. Your eyes, however, won’t thank you for this – unless you’re using Apple’s new Dark Mode.

The beautiful colour scheme turns the majority of app backgrounds from white to a much darker hue, reducing eye strain and making it far easier to read in low-light environments. You can even schedule Dark Mode so that, when you roll out of bed for the first look at your social feeds, your screen is ready for your still-adjusting eyes.

With wallpapers, third party app implementation and a brilliantly easy interface, Dark Mode helps you enjoy your content without being blinded by the light.

New photo functionality

Much has been made of the new lenses on the latest batch of iPhone releases, with 11 boasting a two-lens rear array, while the Pro and Pro Max adding a third for good measure. With photography a clear point of focus for Apple with this year’s new releases, it’s no surprise that iOS 13 offers new functionality to make snapping even more intuitive.

You can now switch between the lenses with the touch of a button, giving you greater control over your photography, while video recording is easier than ever before – just hold the shutter button down and get shooting. iOS 13 also lets you use the majority of the photo editing tools for video editing, bringing new life to your captured footage.

There’s also the ‘slofie’ feature, which lets you capture slow-motion selfies using the front camera. Expect to see a lot of these on your social feeds in the coming months!

Apple has also been sure to improve content curation on iOS 13, with the all-new Photos tab giving you a greater degree of organisation for the mountains of video and imagery you will no doubt create with these fantastic devices.

Find your friends and phone

The Find My Friends and Find My Phone apps are invaluable tools – just ask anyone whose phone has slipped onto the seat of a cab, or whose mates tend to go walkies on a night out. Now, Apple has combined these two features into one, easier-to-use app – with new tech ensuring what’s lost will quickly become found.

With a crowd-sourced encrypted Bluetooth signal, the new Find My feature lets you locate devices that aren’t even Wi-Fi connected, so if you lose your Mac or a device with Wi-Fi switched off, you can still use the app to locate them. And with improved location tracking to ensure you and your friends aren’t apart for too long, this new feature could be a godsend on a night out.

Maps, better than ever

The customary Maps update offers some serious improvements, with improved and more realistic details for roads, beaches, parks, buildings and more. The Look Around feature gives you a 3D, 360-degree view of a place so navigation is more seamless than ever, while Collections lets you share your favourite places with friends, so if you have a cool new restaurant you want to shout about, this is the way to do it.

Improved sign in

The Sign In with Apple privacy feature lets you sign in to apps and websites quickly and easily using the Apple ID you already have, with Apple keen to stress that the only information you’ll need to share is your name and email address – making this a convenient and data-safe way to sign in. Not only that, but the two-factor authentication bulks up security, too.

Everything faster

This may sound obvious, but it’s worth emphasising that iOS 13 will be much, much faster. App launch times are twice as quick while their download sizes have been cut in half, updates are faster and even Face ID will see a boost. Put simply: if you’re looking for increased efficiency, iOS 13 has got you covered.

And we’re only just scratching the surface of what iOS 13 has to offer – but with the latest iPhones coming to Vodafone soon, you don’t have to wait long to experience it for yourself…
