We're on the hunt for the future of game-changing, society-helping tech. Here's everything you need to know about Vodafone Techstarter...
At Vodafone, we’ve always got one eye fixed squarely on the future. That’s because we know that tomorrow’s great technological leaps have the capacity to change lives for the better. It’s why we’ve just launched Vodafone Techstarter, an awards programme that seeks to support start-ups with tech ideas driven with social purpose.
So how will Vodafone Techstarter help bring the best of the UK’s socially-focussed tech innovations to life? Here’s the lowdown…
Giving tomorrow a helping hand
Vodafone Techstarter is a joint initiative between Vodafone, Vodafone Foundation (registered charity number 1089625) and UK-based social tech champion, Social Tech Trust. Together, we’re on the hunt for innovations that aim to help society. Vodafone Techstarter offers crucial early funds and mentorship to help the best and most promising ideas get to market.
UK-based inventors, innovators, charities, social enterprises, businesses and entrepreneurs with prototyped ideas are welcome to put forward any idea that harnesses the power of connectivity, the Internet of Things and AI to deliver solutions for health, education, the environment or social mobility challenges.
Entries are open now up until midday 23 October 2018. There is £300,000 in funding to be shared out to multiple winners:
– Not for profit Vodafone Techstarter Award, supported by Vodafone Foundation. Four winners will each receive a £35,000 prize
– For profit Vodafone Techstarter Award, supported by Vodafone UK. Four winners will each receive a £35,000 prize
– Vodafone Techstarter Champions Award. Two winners, voted by Vodafone UK employees, will each receive £10,000
But it’s not just funding up for grabs. Our winners will also receive invaluable advice and guidance on bringing their life-changing tech to the market – so we can all feel the benefit of what’s being worked on sooner.
Vodafone Techstarter will be judged by a panel of experts from the world of tech and social enterprise, including Vodafone UK CEO Nick Jeffery; Director General for Digital and Media Policy, Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, Matthew Gould; and Jen Hyatt, Founder of Troo.ai, Eartime and Big White Wall – to name but a few.
Vodafone Techstarter was just one of many new initiatives we unveiled at our Future Ready event last week – from AI-powered customer service, to the future of IoT in the home.
Speaking about Vodafone Techstarter at the event, Vodafone UK’s Helen Lamprell said that “some of the biggest challenges in society can be addressed using technology and innovation,” adding that we have “a hugely exciting opportunity to help early stage innovative technology solutions with social purpose.”
Oh, and Future Ready was also where we demonstrated the UK’s first ever holographic call using 5G, which you really have to see to believe. Stay tuned for more news from Future Ready soon!
