We’re back with our pick of the best new and updated apps for you to download this April…

Whether you’re into insomnia-busting games, looking to pass your driving test, or seeking the perfect Wi-Fi spot in your house, our selection of apps and games for April are sure to entertain and delight…

PUBG Mobile | iOS, Android, FREE

“Winner Winner, Chicken Dinner!” is the congratulatory message that pops up when you win this game. And while it’s no golden trophy, or a wad of cash, everybody wants it.

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG, for short) is a massively-popular online multiplayer game, where you and 99 other players are dropped onto an 8x8km battlefield with only your wits and resourcefulness to help you. You must search the map to arm yourself so that you can survive the ever-shrinking map.

If someone takes you down, you’re out of the game; no respawns! Last person standing wins.

Wi-Fi Heatmap | Android, FREE

Readers of last month’s app roundup will remember that we included the super-useful Vodafone Broadband app that helps you manage your router, find out your sync speed, and chat to a customer service advisor directly from your phone or tablet. This app is similar, but gives you additional tools to maintain the best Wi-Fi signal between your router and devices.

This handy, yet powerful, app details the signal level, the link speed, if there are any interfering networks that may be causing issues for your connectivity, and includes a coverage map if you’ve got the floorplan of your house handy. From this, you’ll be able to see which rooms of your house, or office, have good or bad signal in easy-to-see red, yellow, or green patches. You’ll find some great tips on how to do that in this recent piece on sync and throughput speeds.

Theory Test 4 in 1 Kit 2018 | iOS, Android, £4.99

Currently ranking highly in both the Google Play and Apple App stores, this handy resource has helped over 11 million learners pass their driving theory test.

Whether you’re revising for your car or motorcycle theory test, this app can help you with everything from hazard perception, the Highway Code, identifying road signs, and braking distances. It even enables you to work your way through every official DVSA 2018 revision question.

With full in-depth reports of how you’re getting on, you’ll have an idea of when you’re ready to sit the real test and pass with flying colours.

*Updated* Adobe Photoshop Express:Photo Editor Collage Maker on Android | Adobe Photoshop Express: Editor on iOS, FREE

If there’s one name we can all rely on when it comes to editing images, it’s Adobe Photoshop. Thankfully, it’s also available on mobile.

As it’s a mobile version, you won’t get the fully-fledged features you’re used to on your PC or Mac. However, for when you’re out-and-about taking photos, it has a good set of basics so you can crop, resize, flip, perform one-touch healing, and adjust contrast on the fly. The latest update introduces collages, for when you want to frame a number of images into one perfect photo.

The free version comes with more than 60 professional looks and advanced corrections, with the option to unlock another 60 should you wish to upgrade to the premium.

*Updated* Helix Jump | iOS, Android, FREE

Simple, yet addictive is how we’d describe Helix Jump.

Starting at the top of a towering helix, you control a bouncing ball as you help it through the labyrinth by turning the tower. Aim for the gaps to progress further down the tower, but avoid the colored patches on the platforms. Bounce on those and it’s game over.

This latest update adds new colours and new levels, so it looks even better and keeps you playing for longer.

Bitmoji – Your Personal Emoji | iOS, Android, FREE

Sure, you could go down the selfie route and take a photo of your lovely mug to use on your social profiles, but everyone’s doing that. Instead, create a digital representation of yourself that you can change as and when you want.

Bitmoji allows you to create an avatar and express yourself in ways that might not always be possible with a camera. Want to become a giant avocado? Or, bathe in a giant cup of tea? You can, with Bitmoji. You’re welcome.

If you’re obsessed with emojis, and also have an affinity with augmented reality, Samsung’s new Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ features AR Emojis – a fun way to create an avatar of yourself using the camera.

Maze Planet 3D Pro | iOS, Android, £0.99

While maze games have been around for generations, they show no sign of growing old as their simplicity makes them playable for just about anyone.

Maze Planet 3D Pro is, as the name suggests, designed around a planet with the entire surface covered in track with many paths that lead nowhere, some leading you on a wild goose chase, and some leading you to victory. The 45 mazes here will keep you busy for a while.
