Sony Xperia XZ2: In-depth

It’s a case of out with the old, in with the new over at Sony HQ. After many years of refining the company’s classic chocolate bar phone design, the Xperia XZ2 marks a change of pace with a refreshing ‘ambient flow’ design language – and greatly reduced bezels.

As a result, the Xperia XZ2 looks super modern and premium. But it’s not just the looks that meet 2018’s smartphone standards: it’s got power and premium features in spades, too. Underneath that 5.7-inch display sits a supremely powerful Snapdragon 845 processor. .All those brains will power through any task you set it to, while 64GB of expandable storage will happily lap up all the movies, games, apps and photos you throw its way.

Speaking of photos, the XZ2 boasts the same stellar 19-Megapixel sensor found on the XZ Premium, only with a few extra tweaks: You can now record super slow-mo footage at 960fps at 1080p (as opposed to 720p) for instance, while the 4K recording mode is now able to capture HDR colour for even better looking footage.

Elsewhere there’s a laundry list of the kind of features you’d expect from a 2018 flagship phone, like wireless charging, a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor and Android 8.0 baked in. But where things get really interesting is in Sony’s new Dynamic Vibration System.

Designed to bring your media to life, it’s essentially an adjustable rumble that will vibrate your phone in time with the bassy happenings in your games and movies. It’ll be landing at Vodafone UK soon, and we can’t wait to get our hands on it to give it a go!

Sony Xperia XA2: In-depth

After a smartphone built for taking great snaps? The Xperia XA2 could be the phone for you. Its 23-Megapixel Exmor RS sensor is state of the art, while Sony’s added a load of smart software features to help bring out the Ansel Adams in you.

Intelligent exposure control, for instance, adapts to the light around you on the fly, meaning you’ll get amazing clarity even at night. A lightning fast auto-focus, meanwhile, lets you go from launch to capture in 0.6 seconds – meaning you’ll never miss a moment. That’s on top of the ability to record video in 4K, or at 120fps slow-mo.

Around the front, Sony’s ensured you’ll be more than able to squeeze everyone in for your group selfies, thanks to a super wide-angle 120-degree selfie cam, with an 8-Megapixel sensor.

But intelligent camera tech is far from the XA2’s only trick; it’s also a great choice for audiophiles thanks to a mix of Smart Amplifier technology that boosts the volume while keeping things clear. Two more Sony exclusives, ClearAudio+ and Clear Bass, then work together to fine-tune things even further.

Beyond all that, the Xperia XA2 lands with Android 8.0, an efficient-yet-powerful Snapdragon 630 chipset, and a huge 3,300mAh battery that’ll not only see you through each day, but will also learn and adapt to your usage to help stretch its lifespan as far as possible.

That’s all wrapped up in perfectly pocketable package thanks to a 5.2-inch display that runs edge to edge. All in all? The Xperia XA2 is a real all-round champ.

The only question now is… Which one will you choose? Both devices are now available from Vodafone UK.
