We’re back with our pick of the best new and updated apps for you to download this March...

March is here! And we’ve got just the apps to see you through. Whether you’re looking to kick it with Katy Perry, meet likeminded mamas, hunt a Gruffalo or boggle your brain with time travelling astronauts – there’s something for everyone in our monthly round-up. Read on and get downloading…

Blin.gy | iOS, Android, FREE
Got what it takes to dance next to Drake? Easily insert yourself into over 40,000 of your favorite video clips with the Blin.gy app by Chosen. Simply film your sweetest moves in front of a plain background and let Blin.gy’s patent-pending green-screen tech do the rest. Plus, unlike similar apps, a steady hand is not essential. Grab your smartphone and get rolling to share 15 seconds with the stars.

EatMessage | iOS, FREE
New from Helsinki-based Futurefly, the EatMessage add-on app for iMessage lets you throw emojis at your friends. Select a combination of edible and inedible emojis that your mates must catch or dodge, using their face as the controller in an augmented reality world. Once they’ve successfully (or unsuccessfully) completed the challenge, you both receive a selfie of the action, complete with funny filter and movie quote to boot.

Peanut | iOS, FREE
From the lady who brought us Deliveroo and dating app Badoo, Peanut is the new social networking app designed to connect recent and likeminded mums. Because for all its joyous miracles, motherhood can be a hard and lonely graft. After logging in using your Facebook profile, Peanut allows you to connect individually or via group chats – creating meaningful friendships with other local mamas keen for a coffee, playdates, chats and more.

Nexar AI Dashcam | iOS, Android, FREE
If you’ve got a phone, you’ve got a dashcam – thanks to this new app from Nexar Inc. Using machine learning and computer vision, the Nexar app interprets the direction, speed, and acceleration of every car it sees and paints a real-time picture of road conditions, based on data from your phone’s sensors to keep you safe on the road. It also allows you to save footage in case you need it down the line.

Causality | iOS, Android, £1.99
If life is making too much sense then Causality’s the game for you. The aim is to guide each stranded astronaut back to safety in one piece, but it’s never quite that easy when teleporting clones are on the cards. This 40-level puzzler is no walk in the park, but it’s bound to get you thinking as you navigate space and time. With fluid animation and a punchy soundtrack, Causality is brain-bending at its best.

Pitchit | iOS, FREE
Pitch It is the latest app on the market designed to secure dates – not just swipes. Like a kind of Dragon’s Den for dating, users are asked to create their ideal dates and pitch them in for others to indicate their interest. Once the requests start rolling in, the date creator narrows the playing field to a max of their three most appealing applicants, before choosing the one they’d like to go with and striking up a conversation. Currently available on iOS only, plans are afoot to launch on Android later in the year, so watch this space.

(Update) Instagram | iOS, Android, Windows Phone, FREE
By now you’ve likely picked up on Instagram’s fresh new feature – multiple picture posts! Clicking the plus to add a photo now reveals a ‘select multiple’ option alongside the Layout and Boomerang icons, allowing you to add up to 10 images or videos that followers can scroll through from left to right. A fantastic feature for the indecisive, and antidote to the Insta overload that comes with regular back-to-back posts.

The Gruffalo Spotter | iOS, Android, FREE
There are some curious creatures lurking in a neck of the woods near you, but if you want to see them you’ll need the Gruffalo Spotter. Developed for the Forestry Commission, this clever new app adds augmented reality to your woodland stroll, bringing characters from popular children’s book The Gruffalo to life in 26 UK forests. Point your mobile device at footprint markers dotted along the self-led trails to trigger a short animation of each character in their natural setting. You can even take a photo with your faves, and learn about forest-dwelling animals along the way.

Tap | iOS, Android, FREE + IAP
Whether you’re an ardent reader or an impassioned writer, Tap hooks you up with fan fiction on the go. Created by WattPad, the app takes a chat-style approach to fanfic, meaning it’s a bit like reading someone else’s texts. Discover stories to suit your mood, tap to see the narrative develop and share your favourites with your friends. The base app is free but for particularly eager readers, Tap Premium subscriptions start from £2.79 a fortnight, including unlimited access and exclusive stories.

Six Pack Photo Editor | Windows Phone, FREE
Summer’s coming, time to whip that winter bod into tip-top shape. Luckily for you, we’ve found the ultimate solution – Six Pack Photo editor. No need to slave away in the gym. Kick crunches to the curb. Simply slap a sticker on those beach pics and you’re ready to go. The hard bit? Choosing which of the 100 six pack options suits you best.
