Proud of your smartphone snaps? See how yours stack up with the winners from this year's Mobile Photography Awards...
Today’s smartphone cameras are ridiculously good. Every year brings sharper sensors, better low-light capabilities and more megapixels to the world of high-end handsets, but all that tech alone doesn’t necessarily make for a great shot. For that you need a good eye for composure, a steady hand, and lots and lots of patience.
Think you’ve got what it takes? The winners of the Mobile Photography Awards are a good indication of what you’re up against when it comes to capturing world-class images without pro-grade equipment.
This is the awards’ sixth year, with thousands of photos having been entered, judged and ranked over the past few months, to reveal winners in 18 categories – including landscapes, nature, portraits and photo journalism – as well as an overall winner for the whole competition. As per usual, only photos taken on a smartphone or tablet were considered, which is what makes the winning shots such a notable bunch. Check them out for yourself below…
- New York-based photojournalist Giles Clarke took the top prize this year with not one photo, but a whole collection of stunning ‘in the moment’ iPhone 6S shots from events and struggles around the world.
- THE HIVE. LONDON by Jennifer Thomas
