Find out all about how both the 2016 Digital Parenting Magazine and a brand new Scouts app can help your kids learn the basics of online safety...
Every year we release a new edition of our homegrown Digital Parenting Magazine. It’s a one-stop shop for families looking to stay safe online and get the best out of their digital lives. And the best bit? It’s free!
This year we’ve been diligently gathering tips and words of wisdom from a variety of brilliant experts in the field of online safety and digital parenting, making the 2016 guide as indispensable as ever. But we’ve also partnered with the Scouts to create a brand new app – one which will help your kids learn some all important dos and don’ts in a fun and entertaining game. Read on for all the details…
The brand new Stay Safe Online app is a collaboration between the Vodafone Foundation, the Scouts, Sponge UK and We Are Digital – a leader in the digital learning space. Back in March 2016 we announced our partnership with the Scouts, and revealed the ‘Digital Manifesto’ – six key goals that we think will help encourage kids to get the most out of tech in a responsible, balanced way – and the launch of this brilliant new app only furthers that partnership.
The Stay Safe Online app is an interactive campsite packed full of educational games and learning resources, aimed at kids between the ages of six and ten.
The key focus? Digital resilience; with recent YouGov research showing that 62% of 8-15 year olds don’t think they know how to handle peer pressure online, there’s no better time to focus on giving kids the digital skills they need. Topics like what information to share, the ups and downs of online friendships, and where to go for further help are all covered in the app by way of a series of fun mini-games, and it’ll be made available to Beaver Scouts and Cub Scouts Huts nationwide.
And, as well as the Stay Safe Online app, the fifth edition of the Vodafone Digital Parenting Magazine is now available to read online, in print or as a download! A million copies are on offer to schools, but you can also read or download the guide online by clicking the link below:
