And now we’re trying out a new innovation to make it easier for you to get to Vodafone Start direct from the shop floor via the contactless magic of NFC! How can you check it out? And just what is NFC? Read on for the full story…

As simple as a tap

We’ve just finished installing new Vodafone Start NFC points in 84 of our stores across the country, so if you’re in town and need some help with your phone, you can drop into one of our stores and access Vodafone Start with a simple tap! But hang on… Just what is NFC?

NFC (Near Field Communication) is a form of contactless technology, used to detect and communicate with other nearby devices. For example, your phone uses NFC when you use Vodafone SmartPass, to detect the payment receiver and transfer your money quickly and safely. If your phone has NFC built in, you can also use it to do a host of cool stuff really easily, like pair with bluetooth speakers or check into places on FourSquare.

First though, you’ll need to make sure your phone has NFC built in, and that it’s been enabled. Some phones carry the NFC symbol on their back – that’s the easy way to find out – while a full list of compatible phones is available here.

Ready to turn it on? If you’re on Windows Phone, you’ll probably find NFC is on by default, but it can be turned on manually in Settings > Tap + Send if needed. Android users will probably need to go to Settings > NFC, and then Sharing to turn it on, and whilst iOS users will find they don’t have NFC access outside of Apple Pay, they can still access it through visiting start.vodafone.com – they just won’t get to experience the happy tapping of NFC in one of our trial stores for themselves.

All done? Just drop into one of our participating stores* and you’ll see an NFC mat on the desk. Tap your phone on it, and… That’s it! Your phone will whisk you straight to Vodafone Start, where you can check out your monthly usage allowance with the My Vodafone app, take a detailed look at our #4GEntertainment packs, set up your Vodafone Wallet, top up, and even keep tabs on your Vodafone Broadband when you’re not at home! Vodafone Start really is the perfect way to enjoy all the benefits of being a Vodafone customer, and now it’s available with a tap.

Give it a try! Check below for the full list of stores participating in our Vodafone Start NFC trial, then drop into your nearest one to give it a go, or talk to a friendly Vodafone rep for more info!
