You may have heard Google talking about its commitment to Rich Communication Services (RCS) as recently as this this week. We’ve been working with the technology for some time, and are delighted to announce the roll out of a brand new service to help enrich Android phone calls.
Enter Vodafone Call+, which supercharges your Android smartphone calls by letting you interact in a bunch of extra ways and do much more than just talk to the person on the other end of the phone. Intrigued? Here’s the full story…
Your calling experience enhanced
As part of our commitment to bring you the best possible calling experience, we introduced Wi-Fi Calling on select devices last month, and now Vodafone Call+ is the next step in helping you to do more with your phone.
The best part? If you’re planning on getting the all new Xperia Z5 or Z5 Compact when they land at Vodafone UK on Monday (5 October), you’ll be able to jump onto the Call+ bandwagon without doing anything. But we’ll get to ‘how’ in a bit. First up: the what and the why.
Call+ is a service designed to bring the phone call into the 21st century. How? By adding a heap of useful functionality to your calls – features you won’t believe you ever lived without.
It’s all about context. When you’re making a call with Call+ to another Call+ user, you’ll be able to add extra info like the subject of the call and its level of importance. You could set up a Call+ call with the subject being ‘Where to meet me tomorrow’, for instance, so that the person you’re calling can get a better idea of whether it’s urgent or not. Likewise, you can also add your location to your call or attach a picture, which will flash up on the recipient’s screen.
And if you’re using Call+ on a device from the Xperia Z5 or Z3 range, you’ll also be able to share content in real-time, as well as draw on a map or photo, so you can signpost the best way to the pub, or get advice on what to touch (or not) under the bonnet of your car if you have a problem.
And if your recipient doesn’t answer? No problem. You needn’t bother going through to voicemail with Call+; you can simply add a text note to the call to explain what you were phoning about, and that message will be attached to the missed call alert. Or if you prefer, you can record an audio message to attach.
When you’re all done, your call log will really come alive. Instead of being a flat list of names, your Call+ log will be filled with useful info like a map for tonight’s venue, or a picture of your e-ticket, all neatly arranged to help you find what you need based on who you’ve been speaking to. And on top of all that, Call+ is super reliable and secure.
And it’s easy to use too! With the integrated experience on the Sony Xperia Z5 and Z3 range, all you need to do is dial out using your normal call button.
How to get Vodafone Call+
Ok, so how do you get on board? There are two ways to get Call+ on your Android device, and the easiest is to do absolutely nothing. As mentioned above, if you grab a Sony Xperia Z5 (available from 5 October) or if you already have a Sony Xperia Z3 or Z3 Compact running on the latest firmware, Call+ should already be integrated into your phone. Job done!
