With The Great North Run just around the corner, we're doing our bit to help fundraising runners and fundraising non-runners alike...

JTGGreatNorthFunBLOG

The 2015 Great North Run is just a few weeks away, meaning thousands of us are now neck deep into our training. But while the word ‘fundraising’ may well mean hot days or cold nights out training for such the main event, there are plenty of people putting the ‘fun’ into fundraising too.

In fact, a huge amount of the UK’s fundraising is centred around having some good old, light-hearted fun, and loads of the text codes created through JustTextGiving are used to support diverting events that anyone and everyone can get involved in. From sponsored fancy dress events to competitive office bake-offs, and from colour runs, to growing moustaches – there’s always a massive range of events taking place nationwide that are putting smiles on faces as well as money in the bank for the causes you care about. And we want to celebrate that with some top prizes…

Get silly and get sharing

We’re on a mission to help with your fun, fundraising efforts and what better place to start than at The Great North Run 2015 – one of the biggest runs of the fundraiser’s calendar? At this year’s exhibition (before the Pasta Party) JustTextGiving’s fairground-themed stand will be helping the 120,000 visitors and runners inject some extra giggles into their fundraising.

How? Well for a start, if you head over to our stand you’ll be able to take part in one of the fun video challenges on offer. And if you share your video with @JustTextGiving on Twitter afterwards, you’ll be in with a chance of securing a £500 donation towards your JustGiving fundraising total!

But that’s not the only way that you can win! From 1 to 14 September 2015, JustTextGiving will be giving away personalised text code vests to those who take part in the #GreatNorthFun campaign! To win, all you’ve got to do is tell us over on Twitter @JustTextGiving how you put the ‘fun’ into fundraising, using the #GreatNorthFun hashtag.

How does text donation work?

We want to hear all your funny stories from all the crazy charity events you’ve taken part in over the years. Did you throw yourself out of a plane or abseil down from a great height for charity? Did you turn a charity run into a three-legged race? We’ve no doubt that there are plenty of comical fundraising stories to be shared and lots of laughs to be had, so get involved with the #GreatNorthFun campaign and spread the silliness! You can find all the relevant competition Ts&Cs below.

And if you’re not a runner…

Fun fundraising is everywhere. Who doesn’t know somebody who has taken part in the Ice Bucket Challenge, for instance? This fun (and freezing) challenge raised a whopping £3.7 million in text donations alone for The MND Association in 2014 – all starting from one midwife’s JTG text code – and it proved so popular that it’s back again this year.

Or there’s the ‘We’re So Fancy 2016’ team, who have committed themselves to having a laugh and raising cash by wearing fancy dress for a whole month. You can even practice your selfie-taking skills while fundraising, getting your pout on like the #RedLipstickSelfie crew who have raised over £2000 for The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation.
