Thinking of picking one up? We’ve compiled a smattering of reviews and first impressions from some the web’s best tech sites, so you don’t have to. Read on to discover what the tech world’s experts are loving about the Smart ultra 6…
Vodafone Smart ultra 6 first impressions
“It’s a well-constructed, sturdy device, with a level of build quality that defies its bargain price,” says Jamie Rigg from Engadget.
“The device’s 1.5GHz octa-core Snapdragon 615 kicks out as much power as you realistically need. A few laps in Asphalt 8: Airborne and Real Racing 3 with no noticeable performance issues is testament to that, and in general usage, navigating the menus and jumping in and out of apps is just as fluid as on any Lollipop phone I’ve poked at.
“EE’s Harrier, for example, is matched or bested by the Ultra 6 in every column on the spec sheet… With the Kestrel, EE showed Vodafone how affordable, own-brand phones should be done. This year, though, it’s EE that has some catching up to do.”
Recombu editor Chris Barraclough gave the Smart ultra 6 a five star rating, calling it, “…a serious entertainment machine, packing Full HD visuals, solid performance, all-day battery life and a surprisingly strong camera.
“What about the quality of the display? Well, this is a Full HD 1080p panel, not your bog-standard 720p effort that we’re used to at this price point (see the Moto G, LG Spirit et al). That means your high-def movies will look bloody lovely, thanks to the pin-sharp visuals. Colours pop right off the screen and viewing angles are more than strong enough for a couple of kids to cram their heads together and watch a flick.”
“The Vodafone Smart Ultra 6 holds battery power well, with practically no drainage when the phone’s idling, even when connected to a mobile network and WiFi. With standard use (regular messaging, email checks, web browsing and apps), you’ll safely get through the day. And if you ramp it up to non-stop video streaming, expect close to seven hours of life. That’s over an hour more than the average blower.
“With such a strong offering in every other department, I really expected the Smart Ultra 6 to falter when it came to imagery. Well, stick a massive sign around my neck that reads ‘surprised’ because the 13-megapixel camera is fantastic. At this price, the Smart Ultra 6 is a bargain and a half.”
The Smart ultra 6 earned a 9 out of 10 rating from Trusted’s Andrew Williams:
“The Vodafone Smart Ultra 6 is a seriously disruptive phone. It offers specs that might cost you £300 in a Samsung handset, but only costs £125.
“This is the best screen we’ve seen in a £125 phone to date. Where other phones at the price use 720p panels, this one is 1080p, meaning there’s no sense of sharpness compromise despite the display’s large 5.5-inch size. It’s big, it’s sharp and its colours are pretty good. Given the price, the hardware running the Vodafone Smart Ultra 6 is quite fantastic too. If you’re happy to side with Vodafone, this is the best phone £125 can buy.”
“The Ultra 6 punches above its weight when it comes to its on-board components,” says Cnet senior editor Luke Westaway.
“There are smartphones out there with higher resolutions, but you’d be hard pressed to find fault with the Ultra 6’s screen, especially considering its price. Text and icons are rendered without any blurriness, while the panel itself is bright and colourful, so your photos and videos should look pleasing to the eye.”
“Vodafone’s Smart Ultra 6 makes a good first impression, with a big, colourful display and promising hardware, for a relatively low price.”
Coolsmartphone editor Leigh Geary was also a fan, particularly of the 13-Megapixel rear snapper, which he says, “performed very well indeed.”
“The zoom function was very natty, and showed you just how far you’ve zoomed in via an on-screen display with “2.0X, 2.1X” and so on. For the camera buffs there’s even a “manual” mode which lets you tweak all manner of bits that I’ve never understood or seen before.
“Audio quality? Again, very good indeed – both through the supplied headphones and the external speaker. Other concerns such as the battery life and OS performance were washed away as the handset performed well in both areas.
“If I’m honest the specs of this phone are very decent considering the price-point. It’s a quality device which will actually perform and there’s a very good screen which will impress.”
