We're about to supercharge the Vodafone Smart Tab II with kikin's contextual search service. What's that, exactly? Read on to find out...
Search (Verb): Try to find something by looking or otherwise seeking carefully and thoroughly.
Easier said than done though, right?
Sometimes looking thoroughly for something important can be a bit of a faff on a mobile device. That’s why we’ve taken a big step to help Vodafone Smart Tab II owners get even more from your device. If it hasn’t already, your compact Tab will soon tell you there’s a software update waiting for you, included in which is contextual search service kikin.
It’s the first time the ‘Touch to Search’ facility has appeared on an Android device – you can’t download this one from Google Play. But what does it mean for you? Read on to find out…
“We’ve partnered with kikin to bring a new level of navigational prowess to your web browsing.”
If you’ve bagged yourself one of our Smart Tab II tablets, or if you’re just about to, you’re in for a treat; as of today that 7-inch super-tab will be getting even more super, as we’ve partnered with kikin to bring a new level of navigational prowess to your web browsing experience.
What is kikin? Well, if you’re the type of person who loves to get lost in the web by bouncing from one topic to the next, soaking up knowledge as you go, then kikin is your new hero. It’s a smart, integrated search service that puts all the web’s knowledge into your fingers.
kikin search in the backside
Ok, so here’s how it works: say you’re reading an article and you stumble across a word or phrase that you don’t recognise, or want to know more about. The long way to go about it would be to scroll up and eventually leave the page by plumbing what you’re after into the search bar. With kikin installed, all you need to do is tap and hold the word in question.
Do that, and the special kikin search bar will drop into view over the top of the page, giving you definitions, related searches, images, video and news results at a glance. Satisfied? Close the kikin bar and get back to your article. Fancy heading off on a tangent? Follow one of the links kikin suggests, and see how far the rabbit hole goes.
Kikin is coming to the Vodafone Smart Tab II by way of a tiny firmware update, and the Smart Tab II is the first Android device to sport kikin’s searching superpowers.
