4gplan

It’s time to spill the incredibly tasty beans: We’ve got two of the biggest names in mobile entertainment on board for Vodafone’s Red 4G-ready plans.

Yep: Vodafone’s Red 4G-ready network plans are here, and they’re set to change the way you use the mobile internet, thanks to a slew of amazing music and live sports action from Spotify and Sky Sports Mobile TV. Ready to soak up every goal, or stream the music you love on the go? Read on for the full details.

Vodafone 4G – ready to entertain you

Our Vodafone Red 4G-ready plans will be available from 12 August, with our 4G network following on 29 August in London. After London, launches in Birmingham, Bradford, Coventry, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, Leicester, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle, Nottingham and Sheffield will come before the end of the year. Vodafone will bring indoor 4G coverage to 98% of the UK population over the next couple of years. But there’s much more to the story here than just the jump to 4G.

We know that the speed of 4G on your mobile is nothing without amazing things to stream, download and browse, and that’s why we’ve partnered with Sky Sports and Spotify to offer a big bonus to suit you.

“Choose between either Spotify Premium or access to all the action from Sky Sports Mobile included as part of your plan.”

Sign up or upgrade to one of our Red 4G-ready plans and you can choose between either Spotify Premium – which offers unlimited, ad-free music even when you’re offline – or access to all the action from Sky Sports Mobile TV included as part of your plan. Yep, that’s right: your subscription is included for either service for up to two whole years.

That means you can find the right music for every moment, or watch the very best in live sport right on your phone.

Like the look of #4GSport? There’ll be over 150 hours of live Barclays Premier League action on Sky Sports Mobile TV, and our Red 4G-ready plans launch in time for the new season, so you won’t miss a kick.

Or does #4GMusic sound more your thing? Get instant access to millions of songs from your favourite artists when you’re out and about with a Spotify Premium account, and your subscription will be included with any Vodafone Red 4G-ready plan.

Vodafone’s 4G network is just around the corner, but do you know all the facts?

Upgrading from a Vodafone Red plan? Choose from either Sky Sports Mobile TV or Spotify Premium, get double the amount of data you currently have and access 4G for just £5 extra each month without needing to sign-up to a new contract*. Nice!

Guy Laurence, CEO, Vodafone UK said: “With 4G, speed is just the start: it’s what you do with it that really matters. We are taking 4G into a new league by offering sport; and changing the tune with all the music you could want. 4G is coming of age, and there’s plenty to look forward to…”

Sounds like a plan

Our Vodafone Red 4G-ready plans come in three sizes – Vodafone Red 4G, Red 4G L and Red 4G XL. To make the most of that, as a Vodafone Red 4G-ready customer you’ll get double the data allowance of our regular 3G Red plans, and the choice of either Spotify Premium or Sky Sports Mobile TV access for up to two years. Oh, and that’s on top of unlimited calls and texts.

Even better, though, you’ll be able to find out exactly how much data you need for the first three months with our Data Test Drive. There’s more information on Vodafone Data Test Drive here.

“You’ll get double the data allowance of our regular 3G Red plans.”

Customers who already have a 4G-ready phone and want a SIM-only deal can get access to 4G from just £26 each month**. Vodafone Red 4G-ready is also available on 24 month plans, with a 4G-ready handset included, from just £34 a month.

Existing Vodafone Red customers with a 4G-ready device can upgrade to 4G for only £5 extra each month.

There’s a Vodafone Red 4G-ready plan to suit everyone, though, and with a mobile data allowance of up to 8GB on Vodafone Red 4G XL, you can do a serious amount of browsing, social networking and streaming.

For more info, visit vodafone.co.uk/4G. You can also read up on how we’re preparing for our next-gen network here. In the meantime, keep an eye on #4GMusic and #4GSport for all the latest.

What if I’m not on a Vodafone Red plan & have months to go?
Can I still pay £5 extra per month to get 4G & double my data?

    • http://blog.vodafone.co.uk/ Vodafone Social

You should speak to our team on Twitter @VodafoneUKDeals and they’ll be able to give you guidance based on your account. It’s going to depend on whether or not your device is 4G-ready too, but speak to them and they’ll give you the best advice.

  • Dan

Great News!!! I will be upgrading on the 20th to one of Vodafones 4g plans.
Quick question… Will using the Sky Sports Mobile package be taken out of my Price Plan Data Allowance? e.g. If I have a 4g plan with 2 gb of data, when i watch football on the go – will my 2gb data be used up?

    • http://blog.vodafone.co.uk/ Vodafone Social

Hi Dan, so you’re a #4GSport fan? Yes, that’s right. The subscription to either Spotify Premium of Sky Sports Mobile TV is included in Red 4G-ready plans and the data it uses comes out of your plan. There’s plenty of data to cover what the average user consumes and using Data Test Drive for the first three months will enable you to get a real feel for how much data you need on an on-going basis. Let us know which plan you go for!

      • Dan

Yes the Data Test Drive is a fantastic service to use and will definitely be used when watching live games :) My only concern is when the data test drive ends after 3 months, how much data streaming live games will use on a normal basis. I look forward for the 4g launch in the North West to find out.

        • markyboy81

Seems to be some conflicting information, as in the past when vodafone offered the sky sports app, AFAIK it did not come out of your allowance. If you’re streaming a full match in would say that would use a lot of data, maybe even 1gb or more.

          • http://blog.vodafone.co.uk/ Vodafone Social

Hi Markyboy, the data will definitely come out of your plan and there’s plenty included to cover the average user’s needs. You’ll also get unlimited UK data for the first three months so you’ll see how much you need after that. It sounds like you’re pretty keen on #4GSport – we hope you enjoy it!

  • kirk Waiyasil

Hi if im currently vodafone customer, and already have a 4G phone , how can I upgrade to the 4G plans

    • http://blog.vodafone.co.uk/ Vodafone Social

Hi Kirk, You’ll be able to upgrade from Monday – From then you can get in touch with @VodafoneUKdeals on Twitter, call 191 or go into one of our stores, whichever works best for you. Do you know if you’re going to choose #4GSport or #4GMusic yet? Decisions, decisions…

  • Swales

When will 4g come to Wales as vodafone seem to have snubbed Wales for 4g this year

    • http://blog.vodafone.co.uk/ Vodafone Social

Hi Swales, don’t say that – we’ll be there soon, we promise! We’re going to announce specific details on availability of 4G services as they become available. However, you can still sign up to a 4G-ready plan from 12 August and benefit from double your data allowance and either #4GSport or #4GMusic in the meantime. Which will you choose?

      • Swales

Why would I want to upgrade to a 4g package when I won’t be able to use 4g yet and the 3 month data test drive will be over before I get a chance to use it. You still didnt answer my question when I asked why Waleswas left out at launch when England has a number of area included and Scotland has some too but non in Wales this looks so bad on Vodafone for snubbing Welsh customers at launch.

  • paul

When will the 4g be available in Glasgow?

  • MCHargreaves

Cant wait to upgrade in three weeks time! Any ideas what plans I can get for the Samsung G S4?

  • Richard P

So how much of the monthly data allowance would two hours of streaming Sky Sports Mobile TV use up?

  • Lisa Walker

I already have an iPhone 5 bought on launch day Sep 12 and I am on Vodafone Red. Will I be able to get 4g? Other articles I’ve looked at say no. This appears that I can get 4g??? …..confused, which is it Vodafone?

  • vicky

I don’t get it! Ive bought a 4g phone and now il have to pay more to get 4G. I live in Lincolnshire so really what was the point! I won’t even be able to get 4G

  • Simon

To be honest I rather you spent your effort giving decent 3G coverage in rural areas rather than increasing the speed divide further.

  • Dan Bee

I have a 4g ready s4 can I upgrade my current plan for the 5 pound ? Im currently already paying 34 a month and only had the phone approx 3 month.

  • Tom Luke Cotton

Hi, I want to have access to 4G services and the new Red 4G plan. However I’m currently in a contract on a regular plan with you guys. I would really like to upgrade my device and plan so I’m up to date. How do I go about this?

    Thanks

  • John Shaw

How do I sign up for the £5 upgrade as I have a 4G ready phone already?

  • Andy

Ive had a Galaxy S3 since November, am I eligible to get skysports mobile Tv for £5?

  • http://blog.vodafone.co.uk/ Vodafone Social

Hi Paul, we’re planning to launch 4G in Glasgow before the end of the year – stay tuned for more specific details on timings.

  • http://blog.vodafone.co.uk/ Vodafone Social

Hi MCHargreaves, there are lots! We’ve mentioned a few in the small print of our article above and there will be full details published on vodafone.co.uk from 12 August. All of them will include #4GSport or #4GMusic, unlimited calls and texts and unlimited UK data for the first three months.

  • http://blog.vodafone.co.uk/ Vodafone Social

Hi Richard, good question. If you have a 2GB allowance, you should be able to watch up to 8, 90 minute matches within that each month, so a fair few. You’ll have unlimited UK data for the first 3 months too, so you’ll know at the end of that if you need to move to a plan with more data included.

We’re going to compile some more stats about data usage for another post, so keep an eye out for that.

  • http://blog.vodafone.co.uk/ Vodafone Social

Hi Lisa, that’s correct – the iPhone 5 won’t work on our 4G network. But don’t worry – it sounds like you could be eligible for our 4G Promise. Check out all the details on http://www.vodafone.co.uk/4g/vodafone-4g-promise/

  • gavin brookes

When will it come to walsall, Birmingham and is sky sports live and available to existing customers

    • http://blog.vodafone.co.uk/ Vodafone Social

Hi Gavin, we’re planning to launch 4G in Birmingham before the year is out. We’ll bring you more news when we have it.

As for Sky Sports, you’ll just need to upgrade to the #4GSport package.

      • gavin brookes

Thank for reply what speed are expected when it is relsed in Birmingham and how good will the covage be

        • http://blog.vodafone.co.uk/ Vodafone Social

Hi Gavin, in terms of speeds, plenty fast enough to enjoy your choice of either #4GSport or #4GMusic!

Typically, 4G is around six times faster than our average 3G connection, although that varies depending on demand and coverage. We’ll be giving more specific details closer to the network going live in each location, so stay tuned.

  • Ian Stack

Hi, I have a lumia 900, which isn’t 4G ready I’m sure, im on a red unlimited contract that started in November 12- 2yr plan, wot options will i have when 4G launches?

  • allpointsofview

Can I use wifi to watch Sky Sports (or listen to Spotify if I choose that option) in order to avoid using up my #4G data allowance?

  • Josh Fairchild

I’m currently on a £38 a month contract with the Galaxy S4, with unlimited texts and minutes and 2GB of data, can I upgrade to a 4G plan from my current plan? I’ve only been on this plan since April.

  • Christopher John Groucutt

The sky sports or Spotify would be much more appealing if their data usage didn’t affect our allowance ;)

  • Ash

I currently have a Samsung Galaxy S4 on a Red plan (Unlimited Texts, Unlimited Calls, 2GB Data) will I be able to upgrade to the 4G Red plan.

  • David Stamp

when will Vodafone produce a rollout plan showing dates for other cities not already stated in the current plan? Why not produce a map showing the dates when specific cities will be covered?

  • Mark Lusty

Any idea on when it will come to the end of the world? (Cornwall, Truro)

  • Paul

I upgraded to the Red XL Plan at the end of April this year with a Galaxy S4. will I be able to upgrade to 4G and get the sky sports mobile deal? Oh and when is 4G likely to reach Exeter?

  • James

I recently got my Xperia Z from you a few months ago and my iPad mini a couple of weeks ago will I be able to access the 4g network just by calling to request it?

  • Bazzwell

Any news on a little town called Skelmersdale right next to Liverpool ???
Also what type of speeds can we expect off of 4g

  • Dave

When I got my S3 I was told when 4g comes out I can get a 4g handset for a small charge as long as I sign up for the 4g. They said it doesn’t matter if you are still within a contract. Is this still the case?

  • Chris Ross

    I have a BB Z10,am I ready to go?

  • Grant Elliot

You need to bring out unlimited data plans. I use my phone everday to listen to internet radio.

  • Paul Fludder

I will not see 4g for many years as I live in lincolshire will I?I still cant get fibre broadband yet so I no 4g aint gonna be here for at least 5 years no doubt.my lil village in sausthorpe barely gets broadband

  • Ian

I would rather have a deal without the sky sports OR spotify, neither of those interest me and I feel when other companies can provide 4G to customers at no extra cost, my £5 a month is essentially paying for the extras #norealchoiceforcustomers

  • Dafydd Jones

I have just signed a new red contract last week (not 4g as far as I’m aware). However, I would much rather be on a 4g plan. No information was given to the availability of such plans. Can I now change plan a week in?

  • Ben Stuart

Is there a way to check when 4g will be available in the area I’m in?

  • Jonathan

got a S4 with unlimited calls texts 2gb allowance and 1gb wifi which i understand to be Red L … if i add 5 pounds to contract will i get 4G, 4GB data and 2GB wifi?

  • Ross MacAskill

I have an iPhone 5 is it a 4G ready phone?

  • Stuart

Where I live in hebden bridge we don’t even get 3G will 4G be coming here

  • Phill

Hi if I don’t have 4G in my area can I still sky sports live on 3G

Also if I can’t get 4G or 3G when I am at home would I still be able to view sky sports live on my phone through wifi

  • Kieran

When will it be available in Stoke-On-Trent? Or is that not known yet?

  • Neil Gilroy

    Hi,

I am already a Spotify premium subscriber. Do you know if I can stop paying the £9.99 a month to Spotify and then use your offer on the same Spotify account? I guess I could ask them but maybe you have already considered this scenario?

  • Micky Kelly

Hi Vicky, A 4G-ready phone means your device is capable of connecting to 4G when you have a 4G-ready plan and are in an area with 4G coverage. And with our plans you’ll get double the amount of data in our standard Red plans and a choice of subscription to either Spotify Premium of Sky Sports Mobile TV, so everyone benefits when they upgrade.

  • http://blog.vodafone.co.uk/ Vodafone Social

Hi Swales, not all – we’re getting ready to bring Vodafone 4G to the UK as soon as possible, but we want to make sure it’s the best possible experience and that takes a little time. It’ll be worth waiting for, and in the meantime you’ll still get double the data allowance of our standard Red plans AND either Spotify Premium or Sky Sports Mobile TV included. And stay tuned for more specific details of our 4G roll out!

    Hi Harry,

We’ve replicated this in the office with two other iPhone 6 phones.

It appears to be handset dependant on whether it’ll allow you to view internet pages as well as make a call.

    Thanks,

    Kay

    Hi Harry,

We have 4G in the office and it’s working on some devices but not others. This would suggest it’s handset dependent.

It’s strange it works for you in different locations though. This could be network related so take a look here – http://vdfn.co/nworkts
