It’s always an exciting time when we’re able to introduce a new device into our range, especially when it comes from a new manufacturer. Of course, we’ve worked with Huawei for some time now, but many of our customers would be more likely to know its products by another name – the original Vodafone Smart, for example, was designed by Vodafone and manufactured by Huawei.
Throughout 2012 Huawei has started to roll out a growing number of its own branded smartphones. A little earlier this year, we introduced the Huawei G300 to our Pay as you go line up, a device which seemed to capture people’s imagination for offering great spec and performance at an affordable price point.
Hot on its heels, we’re now introducing the Huawei Ascend P1 – the first Huawei device to launch on our pay monthly price plans – a powerful, super-slim Android 4.0 smartphone which builds on the G300’s promise of great features and fantastic value.
Marrying strong specs with affordable prices
The matt black Ascend P1 packs the firepower of a 1.5 GHz dual core processor, a 4.3 inch Super AMOLED screen and Dolby surround sound, all in one of the thinnest frames on the market – making it a great entertainment and gaming device. It also has an 8mp camera with full HD video recording, plus a 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera and facial recognition.
“Huawei’s developing some really interesting products at the moment, marrying strong specs with affordable prices,” explains Jonathan Berrie from Vodafone’s devices team. “Competition is already fierce in the smartphone space and devices like the Ascend P1 stand out because they make it easier for more people to access a richer mobile experience than on, say a feature phone. We’ve already seen the interest that was generated by the G300 and it’s going to be interesting to see how people respond to the Ascend P1 too.”
